Museum of Vietnamese History

An aesthetic expression and unabashed celebration of Vietnam’s colorful and fascinating history.

True to its name, the Museum of Vietnamese History is located in a traditional Vietnamese building with an arched gate and pagoda-like structure, and stylized phoenix and dragon decorations. On top of the roof are four spheres superimposed over each other. Done in shades of yellow and beige, the Museum cuts an imperial figure in an otherwise modern city. Inspired by elements of ancient Chinese architecture, the Museum attracts tourists who are drawn to its unique architectural features as well as cultural value.

The Museum also has tremendous significance due to its rare artifacts that are cultural and ethnological in nature. Its faithful record of the history of Vietnam makes it one of the most worthwhile tourist attractions in Vietnam. The museum’s exhibits are organized by themes, which include the Prehistoric period, the imperial dynasties of previous eras, and its more recent turbulent history and inclusion in ASEAN. In total, its tremendous range of artifacts and relics is priceless.

Tips Before You Go
The museum is less attractive to children given a lack of interactive displays, but is fantastic if you want to learn about Vietnamese history, as it is one of the few museums with written English explanations.
