Museum of the Land of Frankincense

Once a bustling trading hub, Oman was a main player on the maritime stage of the world.

Nestled in the heart of the Al Baleed Archaeological Park in the Governorate of Dhofar is this gem of a museum that has earned a spot on the World Heritage List. The Archaeological site is considered the best preservation of an ancient Islamic city, and the museum got its name from the area being once rife with frankincense trees, which Oman was famous for exporting in the past.

Everything you need to know about the history, culture and essence of Oman is available in the museum, where the maritime heritage and turbulent stories of all the Sultanates of times gone are brought to life by the antiques and displays showcased within.
