The Museum of Fine Arts is a fine arts museum located at the East side of the Citadel park located in Ghent, Belgium. Housing a wide display of art collections from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century, it also showcases several European paintings. In fact, the museum’s extensive collection of Flemish Art is among the most comprehensive in the world, apart from those at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp and the Groeninge museum in Bruges. With the likes of Hieronymus Bosch, James Ensor, Peter Paul Rubens and many other Flemish artists’ works displayed here, you are bound to emerge from this museum a more learned individual on Flemish art. Apart from its permanent collection, the museum also has two roving exhibitions each year to keep things exciting for visitors.


The facade of the museum was conceptualised by architect Charles van Rysselberghe in 1900. After undergoing extensive refurbishment works for 4 years, the museum only reopened in 2007. Apart from the museum, the site where the museum is located also includes an auditorium, a children’s workshop, a library and a brasseries, making for one modern and multipurpose complex for an invigorating, fun-filled day.
