The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Jacksonville, Florida houses the works by artists from 20th and 21st centuries and remains the largest museums in the Southeast of US. The walls of MOCA are adorned with art pieces from masters of contemporary style like Ed Paschke, Hans Hofmann, James Rosenquist, and Joan Mitchell. From Radcliffe Bailey’s African sculptures to Josef Albers’ compositions exploring visual effects of colours through a square, the permanent collection of the museum comprises around 1000 pieces of art from over 500 artists, aimed to be studied for research, scholarly studies, or exhibition.


Exhibitions are held on the third floor of the museum, the collection of which, changes every four months. These exhibitions showcase the works by artists in the form of sculptures, paintings, and even videos. The MOCA also features ArtExplorium Loft, which is a family learning centre with many classrooms, offering various interesting educational programs. The museum also has a theatre which can seat 125 people. At the Museum Store, @MOCA, visitors can enjoy shopping for pottery, jewellery, and glass among other items. After spending the day admiring art pieces and shopping, visitors can enjoy upscale bistro lunch or fine dining at an upbeat setting at Café Nola.

Tips Before You Go
Budget travellers can schedule their trip to the museum on the first Wednesday of any month for the Art Walk between 5pm to 9pm as admission is free. Students from the University of North Florida can also enjoy the benefit of free admission on all days, simply by showing their their identity cards. Enjoy free guided tour of the museum and make the most of it. The museum remains closed on Mondays.
