Museum of Antiquities (Staatliche Antikensammlungen)

Come and see The Beauty – one of the best-preserved ancient terracotta figures in the world.

A beautiful museum that helms an outstanding treasure trove of antiquities from Greece, Etruria and Rome, the Staatliche Antikensammlungen is considered to be one of the largest in the world. Pottery lovers will be delighted to see the rare collections from the classical and Hellenistic period in Greece. Be impressed by the exceptionally well-preserved Dionysus cup by Exekias (circa 530 BC), with its interesting engravings of sea creatures and a man on a ship. Additionally, admire the Standing Woman – a remarkable terracotta statue, and the exquisite Goddess of Beauty and Love – a Hellenstic bronze masterpiece dating back to 100 BC.

Let your eyes be dazzled by the glittering gold Garland from Armento (4th century BC) and appreciate the elegant Roman Goblet (4th century AD) made of reticella (or network) glass. Furthermore, take time to view the well-preserved antique mummy portrait from around 140 AD and do not leave the Staatliche Antikensammlungen without feasting your eyes on the 800 glittering gems donated by Helmut Hansmann.
