Museum Angkut (Transportation Museum)

How many ways are there for you to get from one end of history to the present?

Prowling the streets of Al Capone New York and clinking cups with the Mafioso of Italy, these are the toughest thugs that ever rode down the streets since the advent of the engine. The Museum Angkut is not so much a museum as it is a freeze frame of the past where the only things that have been preserved are the transport systems of the time. From ox-drawn carts to helicopters and even a space shuttle, we’ve been rather innovative in how we’ve chosen to move ourselves over time and space on earth.

500 exhibits and over a century of transportation, that’s what you’ll find in these street replicas within the museum. Little more than a steel frame with a canopy, the 1910 Buick Ten Toy Tonneau is not even the oldest piece on the set there. On the streets of ol’ Germany stands an unobtrusive bicycle made of wood from the 1860s. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the wreck of the Tucuxi electric car, a pod from the future that met an untimely demise. Interesting isn’t it, how the way we move also defines our movement through time?

Tips Before You Go
The Angkut museum might be extensive in its exhibits and its collections, both originals and replicas, but the labels and signs for each are often scant or missing altogether. If you’re looking to learn more about automobiles, come prepared with information beforehand or a well-read guide. If you’re here for the pictures then snap away because the photo opportunities here are rather endless.
