Museo Histórico Nacional

A documentation of Argentina’s tumultuous history.

Situated within Parque Lezama, the Museo Historico Nacional invites visitors to explore and discover Argentina’s complicated past, with some coverage of precolonial times but mostly dedicated to the significant May revolution and the Argentine War of Independence. The museum is home to an extensive collection of memorabilia including paintings and belongings or documents that belonged to famous figures who played key roles in the nation’s history, such as Manuel Belgrano and Juan and Eva Perón.

Highlights include a beautifully lit generals’ room, an Argentine flag taken by General Belgrano to Alto Perú (now Bolivia) in 1812, and, an impressive sword that belonged to the beloved military hero and liberator of Argentina, Jose de San Martín himself. History buffs and museum enthusiasts should also not miss the authentically re-created bedroom of the great general, Jose de San Martín, whilst exploring this lovely, nostalgic museum.
