A marvellous repository of the most amazing frescoes, the Museo delle sinopie preserves some sinopie (preliminary sketches) specially hand drawn by artists using red earth pigments. These sinopie, which dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries, are then painted over by fascinating frescoes. Marvel at the sinopia that embellished the walls of the Campo Santo by great masters and do not miss the gorgeous sinopia Triumph Over Death by Bonamico Buffalmacco. Considered to be rather valuable and rare as they are traced back to the middle ages, many encompass stories from the Old Testament and provide graphics extending from the 14th century. There are also short films and scale models which further illuminate the process of fresco paintings meant to enrich the experience of visitors and bring about greater understanding of the sinopie.
