Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino

Embark on a journey through time in Southern America’s history.

Displaying key pieces of South America as well as being housed in a key building of history, Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino is a must to visit when in Chile. The immaculate, white building the museum is housed in stands out in the middle of Santiago, a stunning neo-classical colonial building that also holds a key place in Chile’s history.

Apart from its historical significance, it is not the building that takes centre stage, but the exhibits. Boasting an extensive range or artefacts, take your time to go through each piece, very much like travelling through time. Start off with the Pre-Columbian era where the rich cultures of not just the Chileans but also the entirety of South America is showcased. From figurines which gives you an insight to the figures of women then, to the ornaments that defined their social standing and identity them. Popular exhibits here are the absolutely priceless Andean textile display as well as their Chinchorro Mummies! There is also a bounty of exhibitions that even displays Mesoamerican culture, the Caribbeans and Central Andes! Taking you through rather holistic understanding of South America’s history, in various areas and various time periods, you are sure to spend plenty of time here, deeply immersed in the richness and vibrancy of cultures that can be found here.
