A quaint museum in the heart of Marrakesh.
The Musee Boucharouite is the work of collector Patrick de Maillard and this stunning gallery housed in an eighteenth-century riad (a large, traditional Moroccan house) is home to a variety of Moroccan art pieces.
Of course, as its name suggests, the musuem is renowned for its vast collection of Berber boucharouites, which are rag rugs made from recycled cloth and are distant cousins of the more popular Moroccan carpets. Yet, the boucharouites, along with the other extravagant art pieces and artefacts the museum boasts, is a tribute to the timeless Berber culture and tradition. The painted doors and other accessories that give you glimpse at the craftsmanship of the Berber people will certainly leave you yearning for more.
Of course, the museum has a lovely rooftop terrace area, where you can relax and enjoy the Moroccan landscape while sipping a refreshing cup of mint tea. Do drop by Marrakesh’s charming Musee Boucharouite, especially if you have a keen interest in learning more about the the Berber culture!
