Muscat Gate Museum

A warm welcome to the old city of Muscat.

Standing in between the old walled city of Muscat and the scenic corniche, the Muscat Gate Museum is strong, imposing and majestic - a fitting welcome to the powerful city with a history that stretches back to 6000 BC. It also marks the spot where the fortified city starts and even uses the old gates that kept intruders out from the 16th century until 1970.

However, it’s much more than a relic of the past. The Muscat Gate Museum also offers a glimpse into the illustrious history of Muscat. It is filled with artefacts that mark the city’s journey from a minor trading port to the centre of the powerful Omani Empire, whose maritime influence stretched all the way to Iran and Pakistan. Most famously, it’s an ideal vantage point from which you can take in the stunning views of the corniche diwan.
