Mumok (Museum Moderner Kunst)

Be challenged by all that is on offer here at Mumok, where change and adaptability is cherished.

Contemporary art has never been so brilliantly showcased. With Mumok, meaning museum of modern art, pieces by contemporary artists such as Any Warhol, Pablo Picasso and the likes of them are all showcased here. What is interesting at Mumok, aside from the art pieces is the very building it is showcased in. Housed in a basalt stone-clad building, its grey, stark exterior appears boring to any unassuming visitor. However, upon entry, pops of contemporary pieces that infuse current issues flood your line of sight.

Mumok’s contemporary pieces challenge and stretch one’s mind, provoking thought amongst all who visit. Mumok’s initial collection of almost 10,000 pieces largely revolved around paintings, sculptures, drawings and furniture. However, in recent years, the museum began to amass contemporary videos, films and photographic pieces! Including a newly-built cinema, Mumok constantly revamps and aims to stay relevant given the fast-paced lifestyle we live. With films revolving around controversial themes, the cinema screens thought-provoking films, sure to challenge anyone’s preconceived thoughts. If you fancy a hands-on approach to exploring the boundaries (or lack thereof) of contemporary art, head for the workshops! Catering to all ages, each program is specially curated for the relevant ages, truly engaging curious minds, regardless of age. Come here with an open heart and mind, seeing pieces present intriguing issues in ways you’d never thought of.
