Mount Sinai

The historic place where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

Mount Sinai, otherwise known as Moses’ Mountain or Mount Horeb, is a peak in Egypt and a religiously significant site across the Abrahamic religions. It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and the Quran and according to Christianity, Judaism and Islam, it is where Moses was believed to have received the Ten Commandments. The mountain stands at 2285m high and is situated near Saint Catherine city in Sinai. It is adjacent to Mount Catherine which towers at 2629m and is the highest mountain in the country. There are two known routes up to the summit - the longer and shallower one is known as Siket El Bashait and it takes about 2.5 hours on foot or perhaps you can hire a camel to take you up to. The steeper but more direct one is known as Siket Sayidna Musa. Regardless of which path you choose to take, you will certainly be able to experience a spiritual presence as you walk in the footsteps of Moses. The summit is still used by Muslims as a worship ground. A visit to Mount Sinai will certainly inspire and reward you will a good view over the beautiful landscape too.

Tips Before You Go
The best time to summit is in the wee hours of the morning when it is much cooler, so perhaps you can consider spending the night at the base where there are available accommodation and make an early assault up the mountain to catch the sunrise. You do not necessarily need a guide up the mountain as well as the paths up are pretty distinct.
