Hydra, Greece
Mount Eros

Taking the footpaths and donkey trails in Hydra is always a joyride and the hike to Mount Eros is no different.

The stunning little island of Hydra in Greece, home of the formidable Mount Eros, is truly unique because it can only be explored by foot! Motor vehicles and bicycles are strictly forbidden here because they can disrupt the ambience of the island. Even though people walk most of the time, some use donkeys and horses too. Hydra is so picturesque that having to walk everywhere is a delight, rather than a chore. In order to reach Mount Eros, you must first go through the trail that leads to the Profitis Ilias Monastery. From there, keep walking until you see a board that reads “Mount Eros” and continue the journey. Alternatively, you can also choose to start the hike from the centre of Hydra. They say all rivers lead to the same ocean, and likewise, the view from the top of the mountain will take your breath away regardless of which route you choose. Lace up those boots and be prepared for a panoramic view of the area that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Tips Before You Go
The climb, which can take roughly four hours, can be physically draining, so we advise you to prepare yourself well beforehand. Wearing appropriate footwear and packing water is equally important.
