Monterosso al Mare

Away, away to a village in Italy and live the Italian’s Bella Vita.

Tracing the Italian Riveria from comforts of the longest beach of the 5 Cinque Terra towns, immaculate sands shift under feet marching forward while eluding the many rented beach fixtures, as the waves gently beckon by constant ebb and flow. When the waters have become too glaring as noon high sun paints wide and far, and sunglasses had been left on the dresser back in the hotel, look to the town and be amazed by the medley that is a facade of Italian old and new combined, all in one town. Filled with the momentum of Italian living, the town divided into cities old and new, wandering through the town, running fingers against the walls of the town reveal the age of each building that tricks the eyes by way of refurbished skins, some coarse that is reminiscent of clay, the older, seasonal versatile material of preference, and some more smooth that is definitely of the younger part of town. Upon returning to the beach, silently greeting the other beach goers, Neptune, the king of the sea, appears devastated amongst pieces of itself blown off during World War 2; Neptune, or the Giant, a statue that was an artist’s rendition of Neptune, once stood keeping vigilant sight out to sea, and the remnants of its existence that remains as a stump, colours the history of Monterosso al Mare in the flashes of violence enacted by invading pirates and of the culture steeped in maritime industry.
