Step into the vast paradise of the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, which covers an impressive area of 70,000 square metres. This wondrous green sanctuary is home to an extensive collection of exotic plants from all over the world. Animal lovers will be delighted to find beautiful peacocks roaming freely in the tropical garden. Head for the gorgeous lakes and admire the elegant black and white swans as they glide gracefully on the tranquil waters. Don’t forget to see one of the largest collections of cycads (living fossils) which are believed to be at least 2 million years old!


The highlight of the Monte Palace Tropical Garden is the marvellous collection of tile panels, which can be found along the walkways as well as amongst the plants acquired by José Berardo. Look out for the exquisite and rare Hispano-Moorish tiles which dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries, considered to be one of the most precious in Portugal.

Tips Before You Go
You should definitely plan your visit during the summer if possible, as there will be wider selections of plants on display and most of the flowers will be blooming in the glorious summer sunshine! Additionally, do expect some climbing as well as steep pathways to view the various sections and exhibitions in this garden.
