Monte Generoso

Bella vista.

Straddling the borders of Italy and Switzerland looms the spectacular beast of a mountain, Monte Generoso. At an impressive height of 1,701-metres, the snow-capped summit of this mountain provides visitors with unparalleled, magnificent panoramas of pristine Lake Lugano, the vibrant city, as well as the giants Matterhorn and Jungfrau all the way to the Bernina Range on a clear, sunny day.

A cog railway transports visitors along a 9-kilometre picturesque stretch of classic Swiss scenery up to the peak to enjoy the breath-taking views; take the experience up a notch by relaxing in the warm ambience of the new restaurant “Fiore di pietra” (stone flower) at the peak for a truly memorable experience. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the natural playground around Monte Generoso with its numerous hiking trails, such as the Nature Trail and the Ice Pit Nevere, of which the latter takes hikers to restored traditional ice huts once used to chill milk before it solidified into butter. Daredevils and thrill-seekers can opt for paragliding, and gain an unforgettable aerial experience over the marvellous landscape of Monte Generoso from an incredible vantage point.
