Monte Brè

The sunniest mountain in Switzerland.

Rising elegantly above the charming old town and placid waters of Lake Lugano, majestic Monte Bre provides one-of-a-kind panoramic views of Lake Lugano and the colourful, bustling cityscape from an impressive height of 925-metres. From its sunny summit, visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of the rugged Swiss Alps, including the distinctive peaks of Monte San Salvatore and Monte San Giorgio, as well as of the Valais Alps to the west.

A red vintage funicular takes visitors in a matter of minutes from the centre of Lugano to the peak, where visitors will fall in love with the serene and tranquil ambience of Monte Bre. Breathe in the crisp, fresh mountain air and bask in the warm sunlight as the locals do at either of the 2 restaurants on the ‘summit’, complete with aromatic coffee in hand. If you want to explore the heart of nature, just embark on your own adventure through lush green forests and staggering rock formations on any of the magnificent hiking trails leading away from the summit. Visitors can also choose to descend down towards Lake Lugano via the romantic Bre village, home to ornately decorated grottos and works of art that preserve the authentic character of a traditional Swiss country settlement.
