The Montaza Palace is a grand palace that also comprises of stunning gardens and a museum, conveniently situated in Montaza in the Alexandria district of Egypt. It was constructed on a low plateau just east of the district and towers over the Mediterranean Sea, giving one a good panoramic view from the top. The compound first housed the Salamlek Palace, built in 1892 by the last Muhammad Ali Dynasty ruler to hold the Khedive title and it was used as a hunting lodge and residence back then. The larger Al-Haramlik Palace and royal gardens were constructed in 1932 by King Fuad I as a summer palace. You will surely be left envious as you see the extravagant décor that is present in every inch of the palace’s interior. Even the gardens are extravagant, with well-pruned hedges and ornate fountains prominently on display. The architectural style here actually features three kinds: Ottoman, Florentine and Italian Renaissance designs. This makes the design of the palace stand out even more, especially since these three styles all complement each other to create a lavish masterpiece. The palace was most recently used by former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. The Al-Montaza Park, which is part of the compound, spans over 150 acres, allowing visitors to take a relaxing stroll and enjoy some peace and quiet.
