Montauk Point Lighthouse

he brilliance of almost 300,000 candles.

One of the oldest operating lighthouses in the state of New York, the Montauk Point Lighthouse is located near the quaint town of Montauk on Long Island, and is the easternmost point of the island. It was first lit towards the end of the 18th Century and has been guiding vessels through the dark seas ever since. Over the years, it has been maintained and renovated, and the light currently installed inside has the brilliance of almost 300,000 candles.

Standing at 33m tall, the top of the lighthouse has a viewing gallery that offers a 360-degree view of the area. At the foot of the structure lies two ponds named the "Money Ponds", where a pirate was even said to have buried his treasure around 1700 – who knows, you could be walking into an unexpected financial windfall!
