One of 55 Russian-made SS Whiskey class SS submarines, this big blue submarine has surfaced from the depths of the water for you to explore.
In July 1995, the Governor of Java, Mr Basofi Soedirman laid the very first stone of this 1300 ton monument, the largest submarine monument in Asia, a full scale KRI Pasopati 410 that war veterans wanted to build to commemorate the service of this formidable weapon of war and its brave crew. This submarine has been fighting in the navy since 1962, stealthily navigating the waters, destroying enemies anti-shipping equipment, keeping watch over the underwater world and conducting silent raids.
You will get the chance to walk the narrow corridors and discover the torpedo room, workroom, kitchen and dining room where the crew would spend weeks on end battling it out from this cramped space. A video rama screens cinematic films with high quality audio that take you even further into the world of the submarine, demonstrating what it was like to live and work on board, and showing the submarine in action. It’s not every day that you get to walk in a submarine – especially not on dry land – so get up to speed with Indonesia’s maritime history while doing something you’ve never done before.
