Monastery of Pedralbes

This former monastery-turned-museum is one of the prettiest buildings in Barcelona.

The Monastery of Pedralbes was built in the 14th century and was originally administered by the nuns of the Order of Saint Clare. Today, visitors can enter the monastery to see the monuments and architecture within. Inside the monastery, you can find the tombs of Reverend Mothers who lived here, and the tomb of Queen Elisenda, the founder of this monastery. You can also understand the everyday lives of the nuns at this monastery, and visit the utility rooms used by them. Note that some places are cordoned off to the public, as a handful of nuns still reside there today. The museum is located at the former nuns' dormitory, where religious art pieces are exhibited. There is also a peaceful and quiet garden situated within the grounds, where visitors can enjoy the serenity under towering palm trees and cypresses which provide plenty of shade from the sun.
