A beautiful palace with romantic origins and royal connections.

A shining example of love that stands the test of time, the Mon Repos Palace was built and gifted by the High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands to his Corfiot wife.in 1826. Located on top of a hill, this lovely palace may be small but with its elegant colonial elements, is gorgeous and provides a breath-taking view of the shimmering sea below.

The palace is hidden away behind a grove of trees – a perfect romantic getaway. As you walk along the long, shaded driveway, you will see plant life growing wild and unhindered, as if the Commissioner did not want to completely tame the hill which he built on. The driveway opens to a stately square palace with a semi-circular main entrance and a well-tended garden in front of it.

Royalty has graced this palace after it left the hands of its previous owner. The former King Constantine II, the last King of Greece, used it as a holiday residence. Prince Philip, royal consort to Queen Elizabeth, was born here as well. Today, the palace houses a museum displaying artefacts found on the Ionian islands, and the grounds provide a romantic walk through the quiet, shaded arcades surrounded by lush vegetation.
