As its name suggests, the Moderna Museet Malmö is a museum of modern and contemporary art, located in the heart of the city Malmö. Although affiliated with the state-owned Moderna Museet in Stockholm, this branch of the museum is privately-owned, and continues to showcase diverse and vibrant exhibits independently.

The museum is a recent addition to the city’s exciting arts scene, only recently opened in December 2009. The museum’s brick building was initially a former electricity plan that was built more than a century ago before it was handed over to the museum. The exterior of the museum is itself a tribute to modern art: it is made entirely of perforated orange panels soldered together, creating a solid orange colour-block face with uneven textures smack between two staid old buildings. The perforated surface gives the building visual depth, while creating dynamic shadow patterns. It is an exciting invitation to view the exhibits inside, which range from visual arts to multimedia displays such as sound art projects, and even a street dance competition.

The Moderna Museet Malmö is the only Scandinavian museum of its kind to boast a significant collection of 20th-century contemporary art, including works by Dali, Matisse and Picasso himself. Be sure to not miss the majestic spectacle this museum has to offer!
