It’s hard to imagine anything more soothing for the soul than strolling through a gorgeous garden, soaking in the sights and sounds of nature – except of course when said garden is filled with beautiful pieces of art to ponder along the way.
This is precisely what is offered at Millesgården, the museum which was originally the home of sculptor Carl Milles and his wife, but has now transformed an enchanting sanctuary with an extensive 2-hectare sculpture park on which sits the original artist’s house. The garden is a constantly changing landscape with terraces, staircases, columns and fountains scattered throughout. The greenery itself is continually evolving and flourishing with new botanical wonders.
Although you may be tempted to spend all day in the enchanting surroundings, do not forget to pay a visit to the art gallery and antique collection within the house itself. Milles collection contains an assortment of sculptures spanning classic Greek and Roman works to the more exotic Egyptian, Etruscan and Chinese antiques. Fortunately for us, the museum is open all year round and is a short 20 minute journey from Stockholm city, making it the perfect impromptu trip to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Exhibitions are also updated regularly, so one can never tire of this charming oasis.
