Military Museum, Lisbon (Museu Militar de Lisboa)

See the amazing collection of weapons and the military history of Portugal at the Museu Militar de Lisboa.

Located in Lisbon on a site where cannons used to be cast in the 16th century, the Museu Militar de Lisboa is a huge repository of artillery and actual pieces used in wars such as guns, pistols and swords. Be awe-inspired by primitive weapons which date back to the medieval times such as cross-bows, maces and 14th century mortar cannons. But the highlight of the museum has to be the sword of Vasco da Gama, which is as tall as an adult man!

Marvel at the impressive battle armour, which were custom made for knights and even their horses. Be hit with a flashback by viewing the photographs of Portuguese troops involved in World War I and other interesting relics such as bugles, medals and even bullet-ridden helmets. Thereafter, history buffs should also take time to explore the rooms that are intricately embellished with murals, which depict ancient battling scenes from the Vasco da Gama's voyages.
