Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano)

Third largest church in the world.

Taking over 600 years to complete, the massive and majestic Milan Cathedral stands right in the centre of Milan. As the largest church in Italy, this cathedral is a grand place of prayer. Finding this church is not difficult – besides its size, it is adorned with a dazzling white façade, which stands out amongst the other buildings surrounding it. Decorated with many amazing statues and spires, this church has been said to be the most beautiful church in the world! Of the 3159 statues here, the most famous one would be the Madonnina, a statue of the Virgin Mary covered with 3900 pieces of gold leaves. This unmissable statue is located on top of the church’s tallest spire. Visitors can go up to the roof via the elevator or by climbing the stairs, where they will be treated with a magnificent view stretching to as far as the Alps and Apennines.

Tips Before You Go
Do take note that you have to dress conservatively if you wish to enter the cathedral. It is an active place of worship and as such, visitors are expected to adhere to the rules. Seeing as people often come here to pray, you can expect huge lines waiting at the entrance every day. Just make sure you stay alert when you’re standing in line, as this area is notorious for having many pickpockets.
