An exquisite mosque so beautiful that it inspired a replica in Üsküdar (Asian side of Istanbul).
Constructed in the 1560s, Sultan Süleyman built the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque Complex dedicated to his favorite daughter, Princess Mihrimah. This massive complex consists of a madrasa (Islamic religious school), hammam, tomb, and a row of shops under the mosque. What distinguishes this mosque from the others found in Ottoman Turkey is that it has only one minaret. It is also covered with a 37m-tall and 20m-wide monumental dome. Another unique feature is that the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque is decorated with hundreds of windows which illuminate the interior like magic. In addition, look out for the enchanting mother of pearl decorations still visible on the main gate of the mosque.
