The Metropolitan Museum of Manila, sometimes known as the Met, is a museum situated within the district of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas along Roxas Boulevard in Malate, Manila. It is renowned for being the country's premium museum of modern and contemporary visual arts. Having been established in 1976, the museum was renowned as the first art institution of its kind within the country to offer a pedagogical and bilingual programme. Partially subsidized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the administration of the museum then came under the Metropolitan Museum of Manila Foundation in 1979. The museum is home to a collection of art and historical works loaned out such as pre-Hispanic goldwork and pottery, religious pieces as well as some artworks by Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. The rest of the museum is set aside for the Philippine contemporary featuring works of various local artists.
