Metropolis

This beautiful building is one of the most famous landmarks in Madrid.

The Metropolis building is a beautiful office center located on the corner of Calle de Alcala and Gran Via, and indeed a sight to behold. Built in the graceful Beaux-Arts style, its architectural structure alone is worth a visit. Amongst its most characterized features are its bright white façade exterior, decorated with statues, pillars, and ornaments, and topped off with its iconic black dome. Along the domes are some 30,000 leaves of 24-carat gold, and sitting on top is a statue of the winged goddess Victoria, designed by Spanish sculptor Federico Coullaut-Valera Mendigutia (1912 – 1989). The current statue is actually a replacement of the original one, which has been moved to another office premise. Plan your visit after sunset when the entire building will be gloriously lit up, and see for yourself why the Metropolis is considered one of the most photographed spots in Madrid.
