Each of the 14 towers showcases and tells the story of different myths, each unique in its own. Situated on the banks of the Vaigai River, the ancient temple measuring 170 feet in height, dates back to the 6th century, rebuilt and restored in the 14th century after it was devastated by enemy armies, and has even been mentioned in scores of age-old literature!


Today, the temple continues to stand proudly, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors into her sacred grounds daily. It is also a major pilgrimage site, greeting millions of devotees and tourists over the course of the 10-day annual Meenakshi Tirukalyanam festival.
