MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo

An art piece in itself.

The MAXXI is the first national institution devoted to contemporary creativity in Italy. Designed by world-renowned female architect Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi-Briton who was made Dame in 2012 by Elizabeth II for her architectural contributions, the building itself is a testament to the work that it aims to promote: art and architecture.

The MAXXI contains two houses of exhibitions: Art and Architecture. With a beautiful open space that is welcoming to all, the architecture collections explore historic Italian designs and analyse modern infrastructure. Visitors are taken on a captivating journey of architectural evolutionary processes, from the conceptualisation of ideas to its physical realisation. This is achieved though the use of various mediums such as design drawings, photographs and models. The MAXXI’s art gallery is no less inviting, showcasing young but influential 20th century art, with an emphasis on artistic productions rooted in Italian culture. For those who enjoy a creative space that challenges traditional expectations, the MAXXI is definitely an experience you do not want to miss.
