There’s only one word to describe this building: Splendid!
Located some nine kilometres from the centre of Rabat is the Mohammed V Mausoleum. This is where the present king’s father, the late Hassan II, and his grandfather were entombed. Visitors will be entranced by the splendid architecture that can be seen throughout here, a marvellous example of the Alaouite dynasty’s attention to detail. White marble adorns the halls, sparkling brightly under the natural sunlight and thus becoming even more illuminating. Each room you step in is just so incredibly well-lit, that they become absolutely perfect for you to take photos in. The carved plaster and zellij that surrounds the walls and ceilings will also make you gape in wonder as you admire the intricate detailing. But don’t let them distract you from the dazzling chandeliers and the ceiling itself, which is made out of carved cedar wood. All in all, the interior simply screams extravagance, but it is after all a tribute to the late king. Besides a mausoleum, it also functions as a mosque, being one of the few holy sites that are open to the public.
