One of the most significant cathedrals in France.
Not to be confused with the Notre-Dame de la Garde, the Marseille Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral and a national monument of France. Distinguished by its twin towers and the green and white striped stone exterior (made of local Cassis stone and green Floretine marble), it is built on the site of a former 5th-century church and next to the remains of a 12th-century church.
Step inside this Romanesque-Byzantine styled church and marvel at the ornate architecture, from the marble floors to the domes, arches, and even the light fixtures! There are several statues inside the cathedral as well, including that of Saint Anne and Mary, Saint Veronica and Christ, and Saint Joan of Arc. The tomb of Saint Eugene de Mazenod, a former Bishop of Marseille, is also housed here.
