Marrakech Museum

A renowned art museum in the old centre of Marrakesh, Morocco.

The Museum of Marrakech is an art museum situated in the old centre of Marrakesh City in Morocco. The museum is housed in the Dar Menebhi Palace, which was built at the end of the nineteenth century. The palace was refurbished by Omar Benjelloun Foundation and converted into the present day museum in 1997.

The palace represents a timeless example of classical Moorish architecture and designs, which typically encompass fountains in the central courtyard, traditional seating areas and intricate designs on the floors and ceiling. The palace’s courtyard is certainly the highlight of this attraction, with its cedar archways, stained glass windows and ‘zellij’ tilework share to capture your imagination. The museum’s atrium has a large, beautiful chandelier-like ceiling piece made up of metal plates and precise geometric cuttings.

The museum holds exhibits of both traditional and modern pieces of Moroccan art as well as books, coins and other pieces of precious artefacts. Do look out for the display of the rare Fez ceramics in the main room of the courtyard!
