Marina Piccola

From the craggy cliffs, Marina Piccola is a siren’s call, an echo of its past as the perch of the sirens of Roman myth.

Even at the height of winter, the waters of Marina Piccola are a gentle lukewarm, the town protected from the southern winds by the stolid natural fort of limestone and trees standing guard against the elements. Known best as Capri’s sunniest spot, the Marina Piccola adds volume rather than altering the natural beauty of the coastal formations and fauna.

And natural beauty is never in short order at this coastal town. With a bay split in two by the perch of sirens, its sands are often packed to their limit with tourists and beach lovers out for a bronzing. The Scoglio delle Sirene are an impressive focal point for photographers, the flat rough rocks thought to be the site where the bewitching maidens of the ocean sung their deadly song. The Faraglioni sea stacks are a clustered counsel of stone elders made of limestone chalk, jutting out of the water just meters from the shoreline. An icon of Marina Piccola, time has shaped tunnels and carved features into the rock, granting them character built over the years. As enchanting as the tale originating from its shores, the Marina Piccola is a difficult melody to reject.

Tips Before You Go
The waters of Marina Piccola might in general be rather placid but they can still get slightly rough during the winter months. If you happen to be visiting in summer, request for a boat ride from the landing wharf to the Faraglioni rock formations where you’ll be taken right through the majestic rock arches and granted a close up view of the hulking geological anomaly that has withstood the test of time.
