Maribaya Waterfall

Water cascades over rocks and steaming pools await in this hidden corner of the rainforest.

Maribaya – a woman so beautiful that she was forever immortalized in the form of this mountainous waterfall and its surrounding lush rainforest. Characterized by steamy 38 to 47 degrees water, coloured a slight yellowish hue thanks to the high levels of sulphur, this hot spring is like nature’s version of therapy. The water is given its unique properties thanks to it stemming from the fault trace of the Lembang Fault line. The waterfalls themselves were created by basaltic lava carving it out of the rocks.

The cool mountain air makes the toasty water all the more inviting, and as you lounge and soothe your tired body in the thermal bath, watch the powerful and sparkling stream of water thunder down onto the rocks below in a never ending flow. The backdrop of the stunning mountains completes the experience and makes it seem like you’ve been transported to your own personal paradise where the only sounds are the rush of the waterfall, the sounds of monkeys chattering and the constant hubbub of nature. The ethereal mist created by the winds whipping the water from the falls into the air adds to the mystical feel. It is not hard to imagine how the locals deemed the falls worthy of the name Maribaya, as its exceptional beauty is powerful enough to capture any man’s heart.
