Taichung City, Taiwan
Maple Garden (秋红谷)

The Crater Park.

In the heart of Taichung’s busiest district is the Maple Garden, a small three hectare park that encompasses a lake in the centre. Built on the excavation site of Taichung’s abandoned World Trade Centre project, the park itself features a depression that is nine metres deep, earning its nickname of The Crater. Containing a café, a bridge and the above-mentioned lake, the park also serves as a drainage site for the area during typhoons and heavy rains. During the evening, the park may also attract local musicians who busk under the bright lights of the surrounding buildings around it. Spend a day in Taichung park-hopping, and drop by this park before moving on to the larger Taichung Metropolitan Park or the Botanic Garden in the Science Museum!

Tips Before You Go
The Maple Garden is relatively secluded so you don’t have to worry about large crowds. Just make sure you come in the evening to bask in the beautiful sunset and some music performed by local musicians. In fact, the evening is the best time to visit because the park can get extremely hot in the day due to its unique topography.
