Manfredi Lighthouse (Faro del Gianicolo)

A gift from the Italians who migrated to Argentina, and a sight to behold.

Also known as the Lighthouse of Gianicolo, the lighthouse was gifted to Rome in 1911 by Italians who had immigrated to Argentina. The lighthouse was a work by renowned architect, Manfredo Manfredi, and sits atop the Janiculum hill. Built entirely of white stone from Bitticino, the lighthouse towers 20 meters above ground, and is located where many battles to defend the Roman Republic took place. The top of the lighthouse features intricate carvings that are a sight not to be missed.

Standing by the lighthouse, you will stand witness to one of the most stunning sights of the city. As the sun goes down, whip out your cameras to capture one of the most beautiful panoramas of Rome. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of the three-coloured beams lit up by the lantern.
