Manfeilong Pagoda

A shining shrine to Buddha that glows with the gold of the rarest treasure.

When the pure, bright gold of this temple catches the light, it reflects and draws The Eye from all around. Often called the Thai temple because of its likeness to the exquisite pagodas that embellish the streets of Thailand, this is truly a breathtaking example of spiritual architecture. However, unlike a temple, this pagoda actually consists of stupas. More specifically, a central stupa surrounded by eight smaller stupas, said to look like a mother with her brood.

As you approach the temple on a shady path of green trees that shield your eyes from the glare of the sun, you get a clear line of sight to this star on the horizon, glittering white and gold. In front, a fountain sprays cheerfully into the air from a brilliantly turquoise water feature. Since 1204 AD, these stupas have been guarded by engravings of giant dragons and reliefs of soaring phoenixes, Sculptures, vibrant paintings and a niche showcasing a statue and relief of Buddha are in turn protected within the stupa.

Close your eyes and hear nothing but the wind chimes that hang in the stupas being caressed by the breeze, playing their melodic tune, and the rustling of the leaves. Only then will you know true serenity.
