A two and a half acre large artists’ garden.
The Majorelle Garden is a botanical garden and artist’s landscape garden situated in the city of Marrakesh in Morocco. It was conceptualised by French Orientalist artist Jacques Majorelle over the span of forty years, and features a Cubist villa designed by Paul Sinoir in the 1930s. The compound was home to the artist and his wife until their divorce in the 1950s and was subsequently purchased by fashion designers Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge who worked towards restoring it.
Today, the garden is open to the public and houses several museums including the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech, the Berber Museum and the recently established Musee Yves Saint Laurent. With their vast collections of paintings, ceramics, textiles and sculptures, the Majorelle Garden also represents a major artistic hub in Marrakesh.
The gardens have grown steadily in visitor rates and today, attract about 700,000 annually. Amble through these lush gardens, and find yourself gazing away at the exotic flora and fauna that make up the lush greenery of this magnificent garden. Of course, you can’t miss out on the streams and pools teeming with water lilies and lotus’, for they lend for a majestic sight.
