Madonna del Ghisallo

La Madonna del Ghisallo is a paradise for bikers who brave through the mountainous terrain.

The Madonna del Ghisallo, which is also known as the Patron Saint of Cycling, is a humble hilltop chapel located in the Magréglio village in northern Italy. It is believed that back in medieval times, a local count by the name of Ghisallo was travelling in the area when he was attacked by a group of bandits. He then spotted a chapel nearby and ran into it to seek refuge, after which he was miraculously saved from the attackers. The chapel soon became famous amongst travellers who seek protection from its Virgin Mary, and this tradition lives on till this day, with it being especially popular among cyclists going through that route. Not only is the chapel decorated with artifacts and photos of bicycles, its outdoor view of Como and the Alps is also breathtaking. In fact, you don’t have to be a cyclist to come here. If you appreciate spectacular views and a spiritual atmosphere, then do drop by this quaint little chapel.
