Madakaripura Waterfall (Air Terjun Madakaripura)

Fairy-tale falls.

Cocooned within a natural chamber of craggy interfaces and dark green moss, the gossamer thin falls of Madakaripura Waterfall flow from an impressive height of 200-metres and make for an idyllic and powerful scene. The spectacular cascade of water looks ethereal, almost mystical as sunlight reflects off the moss-green rocks; this spell-binding sight creates a warm and soothing ambience that enthrals all with the beauty of mother nature.

The majestic Madakaripura Waterfall is steeped in history and is connected to the most celebrated commander of the ancient Javanese Majapahit Kingdom – Gajah Mada. The commander is said to have received his immense power and abilities within the cave of Madakaripura Waterfall, where he often came to meditate. Today, locals continue to honour this legend by meditating or performing rituals at the falls, especially on the eve of the Javanese New Year. With its idyllic setting and fascinating history, the Madakaripura Waterfall is perfect for all kinds of visitors keen on discovering the romantic landscape of the East Java region in Indonesia.
