The Luxembourg Palace has served multiple purposes since its establishment in 1625. Originally created for the royal family, it was turned into a prison during the French Revolution. Today, the palace is the seat of the French Senate, so entry to the building is not allowed. However, it is opened once a year, during Heritage Weekend in September. Nevertheless, visitors can still marvel at the Rocaille-styled building from outside, and the palace's external grounds are also enormous, with adequate facilities for visitors to sit down and relax, while admiring the beautiful flowers and statues. The biggest park in Paris, the Luxembourg Garden, is also situated adjacent to the palace.
