Luna Park, Buenos Aires

A testament to the continued imagination of Argentina’s people.

For over eight decades, the Estadio Luna Park, better known as “Luna Park”, has been host to an impressive range of activities. Nestled in the corner of Avenida Corrientes and Avenida Bouchard, the stadium was primarily known for sporting events, especially boxing. Enter the 1950s and the stadium began to host stage shows and concerts. The original Luna Park was an amusement park, along with a live theatre and a variety of music events. From romance to sports, the stadium has borne witness to some of the most well-known events. Evita Duarte met Juan Perón here during a charity event. It’s also where the world’s first “telephony” transmission happened, allowing boxing fans in Buenos Aires to listen in to the first time a Latin American fighter had a chance at the World Heavy Weight Title.

Football fans might remember the good old times when Argentina’s team won the FIBA World Basketball Championship here in 1950. Today, the stadium is a multi-purpose arena, with boisterous boxing matches drawing roars from the crowd, and cheers for international rock acts who perform at the stadium when they tour Argentina. Here’s an exciting tidbit for art lovers: Holiday on Ice has graced the stadium along with Milan’s La Scala Orchestra and Ricky Martin. Drop by the stadium today to get a seat at whatever you fancy!
