Ludwigsburg Palace (Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg)

Take a tour inside the enchanting Ludwigsburg Palace.

The Ludwigsburg Palace is one of the largest Baroque buildings in Europe. It is also one of the rare few to have survived throughout the centuries without sustaining any substantial damage. It has also been largely kept in its original condition, allowing visitors to travel through time as they walk through the palace’s grand rooms. Experience architecture from the Baroque to the Neoclassical eras, and immerse yourself in the storied history behind the walls. Previously the residence of the Duke of Württemberg, visitors can relive the days when royalty used to live here.

The palace is also home to the oldest palace theatre in Europe, and if you visit in the summer, you might be lucky enough to catch a performance put on using the stage machinery and decorations left intact in the theatre. Additionally, the palace also offers an interactive museum exclusively for kids, called the Kinderreich. Your young ones can learn more about the history of this place through a fun and interactive way here!

Tips Before You Go
Wear comfortable shoes, because the palace is humongous and you will need to walk quite a bit. You will also need to join the tour if you wish to explore the interior of the palace, although that isn’t necessary if you wish to stroll around the museums.
