Lu Xun Memorial Hall

Get up close to one of China’s literary giants.

Touted as the first museum dedicated to a person since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Shanghai occupies an impressive display area of 1,650 square meters. Feast your eyes on the 200,000 cultural artefacts such as Lu Xun's handwritten manuscripts, photographs, and other relics. The ingenious display allows visitors to get a better understanding of Lu Xun's personality using mediums such as film, wax models, and sculptures. Known as the ‘father of modern Chinese literature’ for his role in simplifying the Chinese script and the development of modern Chinese prose, head for the main exhibition room to see displays of his many books, his hat, goatskin gown and even a death mask. Do not miss out on his former residence where he lived from 1933 till his last days, and view his original writing brush and a clock marking his exact time of death on October 19, 1936: 5:25 am.
