Loch Ard Gorge, Port Campbell

A beloved stop off point along the Great Ocean Road.

Located within the Port Campbell National Park, and a three-minute drive away from the famous Twelve Apostles, the Loch Ard Gorge is a melting pot of natural beauty and maritime history, and was named after the 1878 shipwreck of the ship Loch Ard. Visitors can embark on various walking trails that range from 200m to 3km, depending on your liking, to truly explore and peruse through the area. Look out the blowholes, offshore limestone stacks and the undaunting cliffs; and be sure to admire the beauty of rock formations such as the Razorback and Island arch.

If you are keen to know more about the famous shipwreck, you can take on the Wreck of the Loch Ard trail, or head down to the nearby Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre to learn more. Various lookouts are also present at the site, where visitors can view the gorgeous gorge in its entirety. Additionally, from September to May, colonies of Muttonbirds will inhabit an offshore stack, and visitors can watch them do their nightly return every dusk.
