Lobkowicz Palace

Heritage and culture in one place.

The Lobkowicz name is synonymous with the finest of art, whether it be visual or audial. The Lobkowicz Palace is one part of that, and the cornerstone in its continued legacy today. Built in the second half of the 16th century, the palace initially belonged to Czech nobleman Jaroslav of Pernšejn, and came into the Lobkowicz family when his daughter married the first prince. The family steadily gained power over the following centuries, and the palace was even used as a hospital for soldiers who had been wounded in the war with Napoleon. It was then confiscated from the family by the Nazis, and then the Communist authorities.

The family finally regained their property in 2002, and today, the palace is one of the most stunning parts of Prague Castle that you can feast your eyes on. Art lovers will get lost in time as they gaze at the works by 12th to 20th-century painters, including Canaletto and Velazquez. You can even find rare manuscripts from Mozart and Beethoven here, among other musical instruments. You can also be sure to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Prague, guided by the current heads of the Lobkowicz family, proving to be a delightful and charming visit. Why not enjoy a riveting classical performance at the Baroque concert hall while you're at it? (Although you might find yourself distracted by the ceiling, with its intricate 17th-century fresco). Don't miss out on this marvelous palace while in Prague!
