Liverpool Central Library and Record Office

A central part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Area in Liverpool.

The Liverpool Central Library is one of the largest public libraries in the United Kingdom, and also one of the most beautiful after its renovation in 2013. The library contains collections that cover a wide expanse, dating back to the last 150 years or so. Amongst the two rooms in the library is the Oak Room and the Hornby Reading Room. The Oak Room houses around 4,000 books, while the Hornby Reading Room is made up of the donations of Hugh Frederick Hornby, who spent a lifetime amassing a collection of rare books.

The Record Office is housed within the Central Library, and it collects and preserves all aspects of Liverpudlian history. Archives from the 13th century can be found here, up until the present day. These materials are of local, national and international significance, and can be made available for public viewing. Immerse yourself in Liverpool’s rich history, and learn that there’s a lot more to Liverpool than just Liverpool Football Club.
